{the move}

This is our new house...yes the yard is still "under construction", but as soon as the weather warms up the landscaping crew will come and finish it.  After all of the trouble we went through renting a house off base...with the owners letting the house go into foreclosure, and being very hard to work with, we decided we wanted the security of living on base again.  Ideally we really want to own a home, but being in the military has made that very hard thus far.  Right now we do not have any direct neighbors.  No one occupies the house to our left, or across the street to our right, and the FGO homes are not finished that are behind us.  The community center is directly across the street from us.  Our closest neighbor is literally the base commander behind us.  

Some people have questioned our decision because the base we now live at and the base Matthew works at is in podunk nowhere.  Schriever AFB, is approximately 15 miles east of the Springs...and due to the fact that before last summer, there wasn't any housing at SAFB, we do not have a Commissary and BX.  We have a gas station/shoppette which at the moment is only open M-F until 530pm, and a gym which closes at 730pm M-F and at 3pm on the weekends.  SO...it is understandable as to why quite a few people have decided not to move here...but we have a lot of perks that most people don't have...

One major one is the new community center...which has an indoor pool (which we will have access to anytime), sandwich bar, game room, and possibly a small gym, is right across the street from us...and it will be open next month.  It is also all of a 5 minute drive or 10 minute walk for Matthew to get to work, and when people scoff and him when he says we moved here, he usually says... "well I have my boots off, a soda in hand and watching TV with my kids before you even get off the base..."  Before we lived here, it usually took Matthew anywhere from 30-50 minutes to get home depending on traffic and weather.  I have to admit, the simple fact that he is home an extra 2hr...3hrs when he comes home for lunch...more is the biggest blessing for me.  Another reason we decided to move into base housing is simply because there is no way we would've been able to find a rental off base with the same amenities and perks as we now have.  We were able to get a 4 bedroom house with a formal living and dining room, a great room that opens into the kitchen all of which has hardwood floors and stone counter tops.  All of the bedrooms have walk-in closets, there are 2 full bathrooms upstairs and a half bath on the main level.  The bathrooms have marble counter tops and we have a big soaker tub/shower combo in the master bath.  There is an awesome mud room and a big garage with plenty of storage space and a garage door opener...  We truly love this house so far.  (I will post pictures of the inside after it is organized and unpacked)...glass half empty: it is a little ways away from the Springs...glass half full: a lot more family time.
