This is me sitting on a bench at the Santa Barbara Pier. Apparently Matthew caught me in one of my many La La Land moments. Although it looks like I am deep in thought, it is not the case, haha. I was thinking, "Look at the Seagulls."

Santa Barbara Pier

Matthew's parents were able to visit us for Thanksgiving weekend. We have had so much fun. Yesterday we spent the day down south. One of the places we visited was the Santa Barbara Pier. Matthew's mom, Ranae, saw this pelican sitting on the doc and decided to take a picture of it. It is a real pelican, but it looks kind of fake.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Yesterday was Kellie's 22nd birthday. So Happy Birthday Kellie. Don't worry, she doesn't really have a moustache... LOL. Can you tell that she is a college student in a town where there isn't much to do? We are all waiting to see where Kellie is going on her mission. Hopefully she will get her call soon.

Avila Beach
Thankfully the weather was cooperative, so we were able to spend several days at the beach. Our favorite beach is Avila Beach, not far from Pismo Beach. It is very family friendly. We saw all sorts of things while we were there. Matt and Mike tried to fly kites. My husband Matthew helped them quite a bit with that. Kellie, Matt and Mike built an amazing sand turtle. Unfortunately i was unable to get a picture before the tide washed it away.
The only people that were able to obtain a sunburn is Kellie, of course. I don't think she believes in sunscreen. The rest of us stayed sunburn free, thankfully.
Solvang
We spent one of the nights in a town called Solvang. It is a Scandinavian town not far from the Air Force base. The whole town looks like it was taken out of Norway or Sweden and set in the middle of California. It was fun to take my family to see this town since we have Norwegian heritage.
As you can see, we probably spent way too much time in the sun. Kellie and Matt think they are ninjas mastering the art of ping pong. They sucked, by the way. We all did.
Unfortunately my husband, Matthew was unable to spend a whole lot of time with us in Solvang since he had started Space 100 training on the base. He was able to meet us after he got off work, but he opted to not spend the night in the condo with us since he had to get up early the next morning.
Did I mention that Solvang and a town next to it called Buelton is the birth place of pea soup?
The night in the condo, we were all very tired. But we stayed up and watched Master of Disguise... "Am I not turtly enough for the turtle club?" I can't believe that we were all able to be on the bed and not fall off. I think we were just so tired after a long day that we didn't care one bit.
I Want To Ride My Bicycle... Pedal Pedal Pedal
This was quite the experience. We have been on family bike rides before, but we have never shared the same vehicle. It was fun trying to sync everyone up in order to make the bike move forward. I wanted Kellie on my team since she is muscle woman.
Museum of Natural History
It's good to know that my parents are still very much in love. My dad is so in love he looks drunk. HAHA And of course my mom is giving him the "I know my husband is a dork" look.
There was this really great butterfly exhibit at the Museum of Natural History. We saw all sorts of butterflies.
Although the best part was watching my brother, Matt, squirm when the butterflies were close to him. He has always be afraid of moths, I guess that is carried over to butterflies as well.
Family Visit
The Hoilands came for a visit at the beginning of August. It was quite fun. We did all sorts of things.
This van with all of it's junk was parked by the Santa Barbara coast. We found it after we went to the Museum of Natural History in Santa Barbara and then went for a family bike ride on the beach walk.
The guy that owns this van was quite the character. He told some very colorful jokes to my parents and then proceeded to educate my brothers in the ways of the world. He also smelled like pot. LOL, what can you do?
This is us

Hi everyone! Thanks for visiting our website. This site was mainly created so that our family and friends would be able to keep track of what is going on in lives.
For those don't know us we are Matthew and Katie Boggess. We met years ago, while both our families were living in Papillion, Nebraska. Matthew's family (parents) still live there, however Katie's family moved out west to a small town in Idaho, called Kuna. Yes, an Idahoan. But what do you do? However, technically Katie was born and raised in Nebraska. Anyway, we didn't start dating until 2003 when we ran into each other while Matthew was at Utah State University and Katie was attending Idaho State University. Before we knew it, we were engaged. After getting married in August 2003, Matthew was excepted to attend Officer Training School for the US Air Force. After graduation from USU, Matthew went to Maxwell AFB, AL. He was at OTS for three months. Upon completing training and being commissioned as a 2d Lt in the US Air Force we were sent to Columbus AFB, MS for Pilot training. Unfortunately Matthew was unable to finish Pilot training due to allergies which ended up causing an ear block. Since then we were reclassified into Space and Missiles. We are now at Vandenberg AFB in CA. We have been here since the beginning of July. Matthew has been going through space training for the last 3 1/2 months and will be finished in the middle of January. After he is finished we will be moving, again, to Colorado Springs. We aren't sure how long we will be there, but we are excited to get on with life.
